Question 1

What is the best app for 11+ exam preparation?

Accepted Answer

It depends on what your child's test covers. For English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning on iPhone and iPad, Cognithix covers 25 topics across those three subjects, plus a language aptitude subject with sound clues, word matching, rhymes, number learning and bonus languages such as Latin and Esperanto. It doesn't cover maths. Daily plans vary the topics, difficulty adapts during practice, every question comes with hints and an explanation, and timed papers build exam stamina. The parent view shows accuracy and topic mastery and flags patterns like rushed answers or a falling trend. No account, and everything stays on the device.

Question 2

What is a good Bloomberg Terminal alternative for mobile?

Accepted Answer

For individual investors, Tickview: SEC Filings & Alerts covers the information side on iPhone and iPad: sourced alerts for your watchlist and the economy (new SEC filings, insider purchases, price crossings), Recession Watch with its model probability and track record, the bond market, and plain-English questions that return cards linking to their source, with prices in your own currency and company financials from SEC EDGAR. Every card shows the date of its data. All AI runs on the device. It isn't a professional terminal: no real-time institutional feeds, no messaging and no trading, and it gives information, not advice. There's no account and no ads; the app is free with a five-ticker watchlist, new users get Pro features for 7 days with no payment details, and Tickview Pro is an optional upgrade.

Question 3

What is the best maths app for primary school children in the UK?

Accepted Answer

Arithmetix covers more than 50 topics across the National Curriculum in England from Reception to Year 6, including a times tables area (2 to 12) with an MTC-style Ready Mode for the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check. Four challenge modes with optional Game Center leaderboards, a 50-level Wonder Trail, spaced review, a virtual pet children look after, and a parent area that spots struggle patterns and adjusts the daily plan. Colour-blind modes, no account, everything stays on the device; English only. Free for 7 days, then a one-time purchase.

Question 4

What is a safe creative app for kids with no ads?

Accepted Answer

Doodlebee is a drawing and coloring app for kids and grown-ups. Draw any shape, tap inside it to fill it with color, then watch the character dance and see it star in its own illustrated storybook with a soundtrack and 'read to me' narration; grown-ups color to unwind, with 146 pages to color in by hand or color by number. There's also a music maker and a gallery of keepsakes. No ads, no accounts, no analytics: creations stay on the device. One purchase for the whole family, with Family Sharing.

Question 5

How does PhotoFlight track your travels?

Accepted Answer

PhotoFlight reads the dates and locations already stored in your photo library and turns them into a 3D globe, a travel passport (countries, cities, continents, days away, distance and flights) and trips it groups on its own, with albums for every trip, country and city. Flights and other transport are estimated from what your photos show, and optionally from flight bookings in your calendar; they are not verified flight records, and you can correct them. You also get a light-hearted estimate of how your travels compare with others, 10 achievements, a photo heatmap and shareable cards. There is no live tracking and no account: your travel history is stored on your device, while Apple's services look up place names and draw the maps.

Question 6

Do BFG apps use subscriptions?

Accepted Answer

BFG uses the pricing model that fits each app. Apps with mostly on-device features typically use a one-time unlock, while apps with ongoing cloud or AI costs may use subscriptions instead. Tickview Pro is a one-time lifetime purchase or a monthly subscription after a 7-day in-app trial with no payment details, while Doodlebee, Arithmetix, Cognithix, PhotoFlight, Ondi, Cloudmesh Weather, and PaceGrid use one-time unlocks (Doodlebee's earlier subscriptions remain only for existing subscribers). Across all of them, the constant is no third-party ads and no data monetisation.

Question 7

Are BFG apps actually private, or is that just marketing?

Accepted Answer

Tiered transparency rather than a blanket claim. Doodlebee, Ondi, Minua, Bellgrave, Inkla, Keystrike and Merge Bash keep everything on the device. Inkla makes no network requests of its own; Doodlebee, Ondi, Minua, Keystrike, Bellgrave and Merge Bash make only the App Store lookup described below. Arithmetix and Cognithix have no accounts; profiles and progress stay on the device, with only Apple's App Store purchases and optional Game Center scores online. PhotoFlight uses Apple's services for place names and maps; PaceGrid goes online for map tiles, routes, optional Strava upload and opt-in heat alerts; Custoda looks up barcodes anonymously; Tickview fetches public market data, including in the background for your alerts, and uploads nothing about you. Cloudmesh Weather fetches forecasts from its own service using a coarsened location, keeps an approximate location only for rain alerts, and sends anonymous barometric readings only if you opt in to its community mesh. Doodlebee (grown-up profiles only), Ondi, Minua, Keystrike, Merge Bash, Card Bash, Zoombot, PhotoFlight, PaceGrid, Cloudmesh Weather, Custoda and Tickview have a “More from Blue Flame Games” screen: when you open it and its saved list is more than a week old, the app asks Apple's public App Store lookup for the current names and icons of our other apps, sending only those apps' App Store IDs and your device's country code. No BFG app shows third-party ads or uses advertising identifiers, third-party analytics SDKs, or behavioural profiling.

Question 8

What is the best screen time app for kids that rewards learning?

Accepted Answer

Minua lets children earn fun app access by spending time in learning apps chosen by their parent. Parents set a configurable ratio (1:1 to 12:1), a daily earning cap and the hours when fun apps can be unlocked. Built on Apple's own parental controls framework, everything stays on-device with no accounts, no cloud, and no tracking. Settings and purchases sit behind a parent PIN. Minua also has a Myself mode for adults who want to break their own scroll habit with the same earn-first rules. Free for 7 days, then a one-time purchase, no subscription.

Question 9

What is the most private period tracker app?

Accepted Answer

Ondi keeps your cycle logs on your device: no account, no cloud, no Ondi server for your health records and no tracking analytics. With your permission it reads Apple Watch wrist temperature from Apple Health to support its fertility readout, and iOS encrypts its data when your phone is locked. It covers flow, mood, symptoms and sleep, cycle predictions, and Trying to Conceive, pregnancy and postpartum modes. Core tracking is free; one purchase unlocks the rest, with no subscription.

Question 10

What is a good running app without a subscription?

Accepted Answer

PaceGrid is a GPS running, cycling and hiking tracker for iPhone and Apple Watch with Injury Guard, which estimates your training load and alerts you during workouts when something looks risky. Recording is free, and one purchase with no monthly fee unlocks the full app. There is no account, workouts are stored on your device, and Apple Health and Strava sync are optional.

Question 11

What is the best weather app with widgets and no subscription?

Accepted Answer

Cloudmesh Weather tells you when rain will start and stop at your exact location, with minute-by-minute rain alerts, live radar, air quality and 24 Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets. Its own forecast blends 39 weather sources and shows how confident it is. Free to download with a 7-day trial; Premium is a one-time purchase with no subscription. No account, no ads, no third-party analytics or tracking.
