No. Children can practice with a finger on iPad and get stroke-formation feedback. An Apple Pencil adds honest pressure readings so the app can coach pressing too lightly or too heavily. Without a Pencil, pressure metrics are hidden from the score instead of penalising the child.
Any iPad running a recent version of iPadOS. Pressure feedback works on every Apple Pencil generation. The app scales across iPad mini through iPad Pro.
Pen Licence ships in Zaner-Bloser pedagogical order (c, o, a, d, g, q, u, i, t…), which groups letters by similar stroke motion to build motor memory efficiently. You can switch to strict alphabetical order in Settings if that fits your child better.
Each stroke is compared against the target letter's model path — direction, shape, and completion. The on-device Vision framework also confirms the written letter matches the target. No images are sent off-device.
The 26-dot progress strip shows completed letters, current letter, and upcoming ones. The score panel after each drill shows stroke accuracy and — when an Apple Pencil is used — pressure consistency.
No. Pen Licence is a one-time purchase on the App Store, with no recurring fees.
Uninstall the app. All practice data is stored locally and is permanently deleted when the app is removed. There is nothing in the cloud to erase.
On the iPad, in the app's private storage. Nothing is uploaded. Nothing is shared with Blue Flame Games or with third parties.
